Bedroom Closet Makeover

Yesterday I shared with you how I made over my bedroom door and closet door. Today check out what I did to the inside of my bedroom closet!

This is what my closet looked like before. I attempted some creative organizing but it really wasn't working out.
Bedroom Closet Makeover

Here is what it looks like after! Well without all of my clothes and stuff in it yet!
Bedroom Closet Makeover
I decided to utilize the door as jewelry storage. I am a visual person and need to see my options laid out in front of me.
Bedroom Closet Makeover
I covered the shelf with left over contact paper from my Pantry Project. I painted the inside blue with a 50's starburst retro design in aqua.
Bedroom Closet Makeover
Originally I had planned to use different door knobs to hang bangles and bracelets on. However door knobs are expensive. Instead I used glitter on some clear gems and hot glued them to long screws.
Bedroom Closet Makeover
For an added burst of fun, I painted outer frame of the door hot pink!!
Bedroom Closet Makeover
I wanted to create a whimsical vibe so I changed the door knob and added a key hole plate to it. The key hole part isnt functional but it looks fantastic!
Bedroom Closet Makeover
Here is the inside with all of my clothes and jewelry. Nice, neat, and organized!

For a little added glam I made this faux chandelier.

I also love elephants so when I found this crystal elephant pull chain, I had to have it!

The final touch was to organize my clothes. I organize by color then sleeve length. I made these dividers for easy organization.
So what do you think?! I hope you love it as much as I do! Every morning its like opening a secret door to wonderland!!
Thanks for stopping by!

Emerald Green Doors

This season emerald green is the hot color. Little did Panetone know, I was already obsessed with it! Well, ok, maybe obsessed with green in general. The floor plan of my house is mostly green. Including my bedroom. However, my bedroom door and closet door were the standard wood. Blah blah, booooring!
Here's what they looked like before:

See how lame and boring?

Bedroom Doors Makeover
Meh. Blah.
And then I transformed them with paint!!!! Taaaa Daaaa!!!
Bedroom Doors Makeover
Why no, thats not a different door on the right (my closet). I changed the door knob and I attached Dollar Store frames to the door for architectural detail.
Stay tuned, the door makeover was just the beginning!!

Are you getting in on the emerald green trend? What projects are you turning into this season's hottest color?

Blue Coffee Filter Wreath

I've never been a "have a wreath year-round" kind of girl. I've only hung wreaths in fall and at Christmas. But I've been coming across so many beautiful wreaths for all different occasions or no occasion at all, that I'm starting to rethink this year-round idea. I came across this great tutorial on I'll Get You My Pretties. Kristy is like me, loving the coffee filter craft trend but dang that stuff looks time consuming.  She made this beautiful folded filter wreath....awesomeness in half the time. Be sure to hop on over to her blog for the full tutorial. Now, I loved her idea, but had to put my own spin on it. This is what I came up with....
Before folding the filters I soaked them in bowls of water with blue food coloring. After about an hour I took them out and let them dry on the dish rack in my sink. Now I know what you're thinking, isn't this supposed to be a fast craft?  Well, I did the filters in the morning, you know, when I made coffee. Put them in the sink and went on about my business for the day.  Later that afternoon when I actually had time to craft they were dry and ready to go. Easy peasy, with a great color effect.
In addition to dying them blue, I inked the edges with Distress Ink, and misted with some Glimmer Mist. I had some glitter feathers and peacock feathers so I glued those on.  I also happen to be obsessed with crepe paper flowers.  Since I've been making them like crazy, I just popped one on the front.
I am in love with this wreath! I may even be inspired to make more wreaths before the fall/winter season!

Suspended Mason Jar Herb Planters

I love cooking with fresh herbs, especially basil. I use a lot of basil. I love how it makes my kitchen smell, I love the flavor, and I love the bright green color. Since I live in Minnesota and its not exactly warm year round, I wanted to find a way to bring fresh basil into my kitchen.  However, I also have a really small kitchen. I don't have the space for a counter top herb garden. So I came up with this idea instead!
I filled mason jars first with some gravel and sand, then potting soil and I split a fresh basil plant in two. The jars are suspended by hose clamps. The hose clamps are connected to the cabinets by a metal plate and screws.
Now I can have fresh basil whenever I'd like! I may even add a couple more jars with different herbs too.

Top 11 of 2011

As the year closes, lets revisit some of the highlights from 2011!

1. The completion of my Party Challenge.
I completed 1 party every month until I turned 30. This came to completion at the end of January 2011.

This became my favorite cake of the year! I made this so many times, and its just as delicious every time!

3. Our Valentine's Day Table and Red Rosette Cake

2011 has been a great year! Thank you so much for following along on my blogging journey!
May you have a blessed new year! Happy 2012!

Autumn Home Decor

September all the way through January is my favorite time for seasonal decor! I love decorating for autumn, Christmas, and in my circle January is a big month for birthdays, so I'm always hosting theme parties that month.  Today I'd like to share with you some of my autumn decor, thus far. Check it out!
I hope you enjoyed the mini tour of my decor. I still have some projects in the works, so hopefully I'll be able to add more this season!  Do you have any fun autumn decor projects?

Personalized Key Holder

When David and I first moved in together, we had a small key hook by the door. It was a framed postcard from when I lived in Scotland.  Three small hooks for our keys. Since then our family has expanded and the clutter by the doorway had become unbearable! One of my projects was to get a key hook that could hold our keys and the dogs leashes. I shopped around but nothing really appealed to me. So I decided to take some spare wood from the garage, scrapbook paper, modge podge, some Dollar Store frames, photos of us, and a few hooks from the hardware store and make my own.
In a matter of hours I had a custom key hook to organize our stuff! Check it out!
Each of us has a photo above our hook so there is no confusion, no mixed up keys, and my favorite, no tangled leashes!
I even embellished it with some Teresa Collins keys!  I spray painted the small frames to go with the colors I chose.
It works out great keeping everything organized! We still need to work on shoes and coats though.....
