Uno Birthday Party

I am so pleased to share with you a real party from one of my readers! This absolutely adorable Uno themed first birthday party was done by Laurie Leal. It just could not be cuter! Check out the details!

Laurie said:
Avery is my third child. If there is one thing I know, it's that the one year old party is for the parents, not the child. At this point I don't have anything to prove and hosting a party where we invited our friends would mean a very large gathering with MANY kids. If the weather was nice in Upstate NY at the beginning of April, it could have been an option. But it's not. So we decided to keep the party to a small intimate group of five families (10 adults and 10 kids). Since I wasn't going to be spending a ton of money or time of large quantities of food, I dedicated my time to adorable invitations, the cutest outfit ever, and the dessert table.
Being a first birthday, I decided on an "Uno" theme. First, the invite. Paper Clever (via etsy) made adorable invitations.
Second, the outfit. Again, Etsy provided me with Birthday Couture who made an adorable Uno dress. Matched with rainbow leg warmers, a monogrammed diaper cover and headband - Avery was set for some pictures!
For the party, dinner food was on one table, drinks on another and the dessert table - another.
I began the dessert table by using black and white. Black table cloth, white dishes. I added the Uno colors (red, green, yellow and blue) with icing, flowers, etc..
The dessert table included cupcakes with toppers from Fairytale Frosting, cookies, chocolate lollipops and candy. The cupcakes alternated chocolate and white cake. The lovely toppers were my featured item and added color to the cupcakes. The cookies were homemade sugar cookies with homemade colored icing. I use red, green and blue to stay with the Uno theme. I melted colored chocolate for lollipops. I arranged them like the Wild Card in the game Uno. Little red ribbons were tied on each lollipop for a more finished look. Lemonheads and Cherry Bombs filled glass jars. I used toys we already had (like the soft blocks) and some cute red pots with cut flowers to fill in the extra area. A personalized frame on the wall helped frame the table.

The Ugly Side Of Sharing

It seems the time has come for me to write a post about use of content on my blog.

This morning I received an email tip that another website was using a photo of my work without my permission. This website belonged to a bakery in another state and had some of my work featured without credit to me. This is misleading to clients because it looks as though it is their own work.

I emailed the website and asked that they remove my photo. I was greeted with a very nasty email from what I presume was the owner. She insulted my intelligence and indicated that it was OK to use the photo because there was a disclaimer about it not being their work.
I returned to the site where there was, in very small print, a mention that they use photos from other bakers to inspire their clients.
This, however, did not make amends in my book. (I've still insisted on them removing my work)

I spend countless hours not to mention my own money making the items I feature on this blog. At this time, I do not have sponsors for my posts so my work is paid for out of my own pocket. Yes, I do have some paying clients and I sell my cupcake toppers on Etsy, but that income does not compensate for all of the dedication I've put into this blog and creative passion of mine.
For some other bakery to use my photo, my creation, and mislead clients into believing its their work (lets face it, what clients really read that fine print...not to mention, there wasn't credit given to me if they had!) they are profiting off of my hard work.
This is not acceptable.

I hope that you visit my blog, Twitter and Facebook page and find inspiration. Maybe even order some items from me too! However, if you are inspired, create your own work, your own version of it.  Do not steal my content and my photos that I painstakingly take the time to create.

With that said, I love my readers, I hope you enjoy my content. If you would like to feature my work on your own blog or website, I will consider it on a case by case basis and only if proper credit is given. Please contact me at fairytalefrosting at gmail dot com before posting on your site. (the email address is spelled out to reduce spammers)

Cupcake Bunting!

Unless you have been living under a rock, you have seen that these simple triangles (or squares, or half circles, etc) have taken the world by storm. Bunting is everywhere! These banners have even started to make appearances on top of birthday and wedding cakes. But what about cupcakes?!
That's right.....Cupcake Bunting!!! Here is a collection I did just in time for the holidays!
Cupcake Bunting is easy to do.....but why waste your time when someone could do it for you?

Stay tuned, Holiday Cupcake Bunting will be available in my Etsy shop by the end of this week. But thats not all....I also did a new twist, specifically for the winter season....SNOWFLAKES!! Tiny banners of snowflakes can adorn your holiday goodies! How cute would these be floating over cupcakes on a winter sweets table? These will also be available in my Etsy shop later this week!

Strawberry Shortbread Sandwiches

I found inspiration over at Eat Drink Pretty last week. Jenna posted these mouth watering Shortbread Sandwich cookies. My shortbread cookies have always been a hit. I never thought of turning them into sandwiches!
I whipped up a batch, but instead of standard shortbread, I flavored them with strawberry! They had that melt in your mouth buttery goodness with just the slightest hint of a juicy summer strawberry. Pair that with smooth, rich chocolate buttercream, and you have a combo worth savoring! Check them out....

Is your mouth watering yet? Guess what...they are available on my Etsy site! You can order them here.
