Dear Mister Postman...

There it is, growing larger and larger. Staring at you from across the room. Slowly creeping into your space. The ever growing pile of mail.  I don't know about you, but our mail piles up on the coffee table until it has all but consumed our living room!  We needed to organize, now. So I made this....
I used a plain wooden mailbox that I picked up at Michaels.
I covered it with scrapbook paper, mod podge, black paint, and some Tim Holtz scrapbook embellishments.
Now David and I each have a place to keep our mail!
I am quite please with how this turned out, and now we can see our coffee table again!

Inspired Monday: Goddess Cake

I was cruising Flickr today and  found this amazing cake. It literally took my breath away.

I am currently designing a small dessert table for my upcoming blogiversary and this is right in line with what I envisioned for a theme.  I would never be able to recreate it, but it sure is inspiring.  For more of my blogiversary inspiration check out my Pinterest board.

Bublitz Brew Bash

My friend Leah was throwing a party for her husband's birthday.  He is a big beer fan, so she hosted a beer tasting party.  Fun right?! I made some cupcakes to coordinate with the theme.  His favorite beer is Summit, so I focused on that as well as incorporating the party logo.  Check it out....

I'll have to keep this idea in mind for David's next birthday!
By the way, notice the new logo? Leah designed it! Check out her work at

Inspired Monday: Anti-Theft Lunch Bags

Today's inspiration...Anti Theft Lunch Bags.....

This literally made me laugh out loud! I kind of want one to take to work. Just to see if anyone in the office would notice my "moldy" sandwich in the office fridge!
Happy Monday!

You Capture: Flowers

I know, I know, I just posted flower pics for You Capture.  Hey, how was I supposed to know that "pretty" and "flowers" would be within a couple of weeks of each other?
Oh well, hope you enjoy a few pics from my garden.....

Happy Wednesday!

Inspired Monday: Celtic Cake

You've probably already heard about the latest way to catalog things you love, Pinterest.  I've been on the site for a little while, but didn't really start utilizing it until recently.  Now I'm an addict! Come follow me, click HERE for my page.
I'll be sharing on here every week at least one image that I am inspired by.  Today it is this gorgeous Celtic Cake, found via Elizabeth Ann Designs

I love Celtic design.  The knot work is just so fascinating to me. I spent time in Scotland while I was in college so I am especially partial to Celtic art. This cake is an inspiration for me to try my love of Celtic  design in a dessert!
Have any of you been to Ireland or Scotland?

Enchanting

Today I'd like to share a scrapbook layout I called "Enchanting".  My friend Melinda puts on an annual pub crawl to local parts in Northeast Minneapolis. The theme on this pub crawl was "Incognito: Come As You Are Not".  We were encouraged to wear spy-like gear and especially wigs.  I naturally have red hair. I decided the opposite must be black! I had no idea wearing  a black wig would garner so much attention! I felt like a movie star that night! It was so fun to wear something as simple as a wig and take on a whole new persona!  Check out the difference in my look....

For this layout I used the Basic Grey Ambrosia collection.  I also used a silver berry sprig that I bought on Etsy.com (Unfortunately the store I got it from has since shut down)

I hand cut butterflies from the same paper line to accent the berry sprig.
I hope you enjoyed my layout!

Grilled Corn Avocado Salad

This weekend I decided to get adventurous. I'm not much of a grill wrangler. The realm of the grill is typically where my boyfriend reigns. A recent change in his work schedule has me alone most evenings, fending for myself during grill season.  A season I do not want to miss. So, I'm learning to tame the grill. I chose to start my adventures with corn.  I love sweet corn. Grilled, buttered, salt...yum. But I thought, hey why not switch it up?
Turns out, this recipe is delicious! A welcome twist to my tried and true favorite!

Grilled Corn Avocado Salad (Adapted from Martha Stewart)
Serves 2 (In real life, I thought this was enough to serve 4)

Ingredients:
2 ears shucked corn
1/2 avocado, chunk or sliced
2 Tablespoons fresh cilantro
1/2 Tablespoon lime juice
1/2 Tablespoon olive oil
Salt (to taste)

Directions:
Heat grill to medium high.  Grill ears of shucked corn until lightly charred.  Be sure to rotate often.  Let cool slightly, then gentle cut corn from the cob.  Toss with remaining ingredients.

Unconventional Donuts

Today I was over at Amy Atlas's site and discovered it was National Donut Day! In honor of that, check out one of my donut experiments!
I had some leftover batter and icing from my Harley Davidson Cupcakes so I tried it in the donut maker. The end result....red velvety luscious cake donuts with a creamy icing. They might look like regular donuts but they tasted amazing!  Go out and get yourself a donut today!

A Lawyer's Mustache

Recently I did cupcakes for a law school graduation party. The theme was centered around a goofy mustache photo of the graduate. The cupcakes are a collection of shirt and ties, gavels, and goofy mustached gentlemen in a retro color scheme.  This was such a fun order! I loved the colors and the playfulness of it!  Check it out....
The whole collection
I think the mustached gentlemen are my favorite! Especially loving that he is blonde!

I also couldn't resist a photo of the frosted cupcakes before I put on the toppers.  I am just in love with the color scheme!

Thank you Nikki!
